ATG receives PMA for NG Shade System

August 26, 2009, Boynton Beach Florida
Aerospace Technologies Group Inc. (ATG) received the FAA Part Manufacturer Approval (PMA) to supply its New Generation (NG) Window Shades for Airbus A380 to airlines worldwide.
The PMA allows ATG to supply the NG Window Shades directly to customers worldwide. "As the leading manufacturer of electromechanical window shades, we are very excited about our first PMA for the commercial aviation industry" said Simon Kay, CEO for ATG. "The PMA has opened up opportunities for ATG to establish itself for rapid growth in the commercial market."

The NG Window Shade System
The NG Window Shade is installed by Airbus in the A380 as an enhancement to the First and Business Class premium cabins. These shades provide infinite light control from full open to complete darkness. Each shade features an individual control switch and remote switch whereby several shades can be controlled together, by the passenger. Additionally the Flight Attendant can control all the shades in the cabin, a key cabin safety and convenience feature

ATG is finalizing their next commercial PMA. "We are working on getting the next PMA for our AMBIANCE range of shades. When that PMA is issued, ATG will be in a position to directly provide operators with spares for its full range of shades in the Commercial Passenger Aircraft market", said CEO, Simon Kay.

Quantas Makes its Inagural Flight with 22 ATG Shades

October 28, 2008, Boynton Beach Florida
The Qantas A380 made its inaugural flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles on Monday with a full compliment of passengers in their 4-class cabin configuration.
Although Qantas is the third airline to fly the A380 in scheduled service, it has scored a first in its first class cabin with the unique ATG Electric Window Shades.
There are 22 of the new ATG POWERTECH Pleated Electric shades in the First Class cabin. ATG’s unique design uses 2 shades inside a slim cassette in each window aperture. The Pleated opaque shade gives the cabin soft diffused lighting, absolutely perfect for reading and at the same time shielding, video screens from ‘wash out’ glare. The light darkening, or opaque shade, is deployed behind the pleated shade, providing the same level of light blocking as the more traditional shades found on the A340 and A330.

Passengers can control the shades adjacent to their particular seat from a single switch as well as a switch mounted on the sidewall. All shades in the cabin are also controlled from the Flight Attendant Panel [FAP] and can be locked in the full open position for Take-Off and Landing.

B777 Ambiance Shades - Another Milestone

Following a successful First Article Inspection, ATG shipped 150 shades in August 2009 to Boeing for installation in three B777 aircraft. Each aircraft will have shades fitted to the FIRST and BUSINESS class cabins. Boeing is expected to Certify and the shades and deliver the first aircraft in October to its launch airline customer [name confidential].

ATG anticipates receiving a PMA for the shades by the end of 2009.

A380 Powertech NG Shades - Yet Another Milestone

Another milestone was reached in August. Airbus completed QUALIFICATION of the Powertech NG shade on the first A380 to be fitted with these shades. The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery to the airline customer in mid-September 2009 and Entry into Service is expected before the end of October.

Again ATG expects to receive PMA for this design before year end.

ATG to Exhibit at the Aircraft Interiors Expo

April 1st to 3rd, Hamburg Germany.
This year will see an expanded presence of ATG at the renowned Interiors show in Hamburg. The ATG stand will be in HALL1, Stand 1D7 and showcase TEN different electric shades. Fully operational B777, A380 and A340 shades will be mounted in sidewall panels. ATG’s back includes shade for SEVEN major international long haul airlines and the show will give other airlines the opportunity to see the latest version of the AMIANCE and NG range of shades.

Reflecting its leadership position in shades for the VIP and Corporate Jet market, ATG has expanded its display for 2008 to include a Boeing Business Jet [BBJ] double shade, a FALCON 900/2000 shade, a FALCON 7X and a GLOBAL XRS.

ATG Meets Boeing's Light Transmission Requirement

In January ATG carried out a complete light test of their AMBIANCE electric pleated window shade. Boeing has approved the lab test that showed the shade to block over 99.9% of the light on the test rig. ATG is building the AMBIANCE shade that is destined to be installed in the First and Business class cabins of B777 aircraft.

ATG Delivers A380 Shade to Airbus

ATG delivers its first ship set of A380 shades for installation on the main deck. These shades are destined for installation in the first class cabin of all Qantas A380. Airbus is due to flight test and certify the shades in the 1st quarter of 2008.

Airbus Selects Aerospace Technologies Group to Supply Powertech Next Generation Electro-Mechanical Shades
Hamburg, Germany, March 29, 2005 – Aerospace Technologies Group, Inc. of Boynton Beach, Florida (“ATG”) has been selected by Airbus to be its partner for “the further definition, customization, development, manufacture and support of Airbus A380 electro-mechanical window shades”. ATG’s President & CEO, Clete McQuinn, indicated that “ATG is excited to be a partner with Airbus on the very prestigious A380 project”.
In February 2005, ATG finalized a contract with Airbus for “the definition, customization, development, manufacture and support of Airbus A330 and A340 electro-mechanical window shade systems.” The joint development and certification plan calls for ATG to deliver its first production ship set of Powertech NG Shades for line installation on a new Airbus A340 in August of 2005.
To further enhance the customer appeal of the A330/A340 and A380 aircraft, Airbus will offer the ATG Powertech NG Shade as a line-fit option to all its airline customers. A retrofit program to install Powertech NG Shades on existing A330/340 fleet aircraft will also be available.
The Powertech NG Shade was selected for the coveted contract as a result of its unique design and features, and the award to ATG marks the first time in Airbus history that a microprocessor controlled, electro-mechanical window shade has been chosen for any of its commercial aircraft. The Powertech NG Shade is manufactured using advanced aerospace materials and precision tolerance manufacturing techniques, resulting in inherent reliability and ultra-light weight.
The Powertech NG Shade is extremely thin, enabling it to fit onto the standard sidewall liner panel of a variety of aircraft. Its unique dual-blind feature enables the user to first deploy a translucent blind, blocking only the direct light while allowing ambient light to penetrate, followed by a blackout shade, eliminating light penetration completely. Passenger control switches for the shade are incorporated into the inner window shade pane, but the Airbus system also provides an option for control of the shades from a seat-mounted passenger control unit (PCU). This is particularly convenient in the first and business class cabins where several shades are adjacent to a single passenger seat.
The Powertech NG Shade can also be operated from the flight attendant’s control panel, enabling simultaneous operation of all the shades in a cabin (or all cabins). This is particularly useful for take-off and landing, enabling easy compliance with the regulatory requirement of all shades being open. The flight attendant feature also allows for the gradual opening of the shades concurrent with advanced cabin lighting effects, to simulate morning sunrise so that passengers can now be woken gradually.
“This announcement affirms Airbus’ confidence in both ATG and the Powertech NG Shade,” said Raymond Caldiero, chairman of ATG. “ATG anticipates a quantum increase in sales to the airline market once the first A340 and A380 with Powertech NG Shades enter into service, and we look forward to developing shades for other Airbus aircraft.”
With additional contracts pending in the Corporate and VIP jet markets and anticipation of a substantial increase in market demand, ATG has invested in an advanced manufacturing and assembly facility in Boynton Beach, Florida, with a production capacity in excess of 20,000 units per annum. “We expect ongoing growth and further positive new business development” said Aerospace Technologies Group’s Vice President, Raymond Tollman. “Before the end of 2005, airline passengers will be able to experience the convenience of finger tip control that they currently enjoy in their home and automobiles”.
ATG is the world’s premier manufacturer of aircraft powered window shade systems, and serves the world’s aircraft manufacturers, aircraft completion and outfitting centers, and commercial airlines. ATG designs, manufactures, sells and services a broad line of aircraft passenger cabin window shade systems for both business jets and commercial (airline) aircraft, and provides interior design and installation support services for its customers. The company is headquartered in Boynton Beach, Florida, USA.
